Container Living Unit Design

Brief:

"You are required to design a living unit for back packers using an existing container.

This assignment will represent 50% of the final mark for DKD4011".

Accommodation must provide:

-sleeping area

-Small self-catering area

-Area to relax

-Small bathroom, Shower, Wc & Whb. Sewer connection will be provided.

Aim:

The aim of the assignment:

-Experiment with a standard container.

-Gain knowledge of various insulation materials and methods.

-Comply with SANS10400 PartXA: Insulation of floor, walls and roof. Fenestration and heating of water. Energy usage.

-Passive cooling methods: Use cool air below the building to cool interior.

-Heating in winter must be included in your proposal. Special window components may be designed to capture heat.
